New York Deadline to File Sex Abuse Cases From the Past is Rapidly Approaching

You must ACT NOW if you were sexually abused as a minor many years ago in NY

If you are over the age of 23 and you were sexually abused as a child in New York, you are running out of time to seek compensation.

Act Now Before the August 2021 Deadline

While New York’s Child Victims Act (“CVA”) can be confusing, the most important thing to know is this: if you are over the age of 23 you only have until August 14, 2021 to file a lawsuit, or you will be forever barred from doing so. It is important that you contact our experienced law firm as soon as possible to make sure your case is prepared in advance so you don’t miss the deadline.

Before the CVA became law, any child in New York who was sexually abused had until age 23 (at the latest) to file a lawsuit.  Almost all victims missed that deadline and lawmakers recognized that this was unfair to the victims.

So the CVA provides a limited window of time, which opened on August 14, 2019. But it will forever slam shut on August 14, 2021, for any victim who was sexually abused many years ago in New York State.  This is a real deadline and cases that occurred many years ago cannot be filed after the deadline.

Whether you are 25 years old, 55 years old, or 95 years old (no matter how old you are), if you were sexually abused in New York State as a child, you only have a short time left to do something about it.

Recent Client Testimonial

“Corey Stern [of Levy Konigsberg] was invaluable in helping me through a very difficult time. I was sexually molested at the age of eleven. I never told a soul about it for fifty-six years. One day I received a letter informing me that the Doctor who had molested me was being investigated for his acts. After fifty-six years all those memories came rushing back to me, I didn’t know which end was up. I had been re-traumatized by the letter and didn’t know what to do. I needed help. Enter Corey Stern who helped me obtain funding to pay for the counseling I needed to deal with the overwhelming emotions I was feeling. I also needed help litigating my case. Corey walked me through the process and made it easy for me. He answered all my questions regarding my legal options (even on the weekend!), and went well out his way to meet with me in my home state rather than having me to travel to New York City. In the end, I was more than pleased with the settlement Corey obtained for me. Financially speaking, It exceeded my expectations. When all was said and done, I found Corey to be a kind, caring and compassionate man and now a friend. If you’re seeking counsel, you couldn’t do any better than Corey Stern.” – John R.
